How to start an AWS CodePipeline by Josh Sherman

While not a difficult task to perform, starting a pipeline in the AWS Console for CodePipeline tends to be confusing when someone has never done it before.

The reason for this is the name of the action. The AWS console doesn’t have a big shiny “Start” button you can click. Instead, there is a button that stands out, in AWS Orange, called “Change Release”.

So the steps to run AWS CodePipeline are:

  1. log in to AWS Management Console.
  2. go to CodePipeline.
  3. Click on the pipe you want to start.
  4. knock Release a change in the upper right corner.
  5. invoice release on the dialog box that explains releasing changes.
  6. Wait patiently while your pipeline works!

Although I understand the name of the button to join the action you will eventually achieve when you click it, I still think it would be nice if the more generic name used around what you are trying to do, which is to start the pipeline.
